Cambridge, MA: Harvard University Press, 1969. First Edition. Hardcover. Octavo; 235pp; publisher's Burgundy cloth over boards; titling in gold gilt on spine; first edition.  Smallest Hints of rubbing on lower cloth corners and front/edges of jacket otherwise a fine copy of a near-impossible book to find in the wild. In the United States during the early years of the twentieth century, there were considerable variations in the balance of trade, primarily caused by the annual agricultural cycle.  This book provides an intensive examination of the New York money market during the period and demonstrates that the frequent fluctuations in monetary conditions were caused by these agricultural variations in the trade flows rather than capital movements by banks. Much of the criticism of the structure of the banking system by contemporary economists, which encouraged the adoption of the Federal Reserve System, is shown to be misplaced. A fine and bright copy of a near impossible title to find.. Fine / Fine. Item #82
